Description

Vintage 1960's or 1970's SILOO Steer-Aid (predates pop-top lids) EMPTY can

We recently came across this can in our garage, it was likely purchased back in the 1960's or 1970's.   We have taken photos of all sides of the can.  We did not attempt to clean it up, as we do not want to ruin the finish of the can and we know that you can probably do a better job of making it look new, than we can!  The UPC code listed in this listing is of course not on the can, UPC codes did not exist back then.  It is an internal number for our own warehouse inventory system.   There are two small slotted puncture marks where a can opener was used to open it up.

There is a price sticker on top that looks to be $2.09.

A bit about the history of SILOO:

The automotive brand SILOO, founded in 1935, produced the first commercially available packaged oil additive
. The brand and its products were acquired by CRC Industries in 1983, which then expanded its offerings. While SILOO was responsible for developing a range of fuel and lubricant products, CRC continues to distribute SILOO power steering conditioner as part of the brand's enduring legacy.
SILOO company timeline
  • 1935: The SILOO brand is founded.
  • 1983: CRC Industries acquires SILOO.
  • Present: CRC Industries, a global manufacturer of specialty chemicals, continues to offer the SILOO power steering conditioner under the original brand name.
Key innovations by SILOO
In addition to the power steering conditioner, the SILOO brand was historically known for other automotive products:
  • Packaged oil additive: SILOO developed and marketed the first commercially available packaged oil additive.
  • Diesel fuel conditioner: The company introduced a conditioner specifically for diesel fuel.
  • Transmission Kleen: This product was developed to clean and treat automatic transmissions.
