DR. GABBY'S 10 FUN FACTS ABOUT RHINOCEROTIDAE
1: There are five species of rhinos: black, white, Sumatran, Javan, and
Indian!.
2: A rhino's skin may look thick, but it's pretty sensitive. Rhinos will
soak in the mud to keep their skin from getting sunburnt, as well as to
keep biting insects away!
3: Some kinds of rhinos live in groups called crashes!
4: A rhino's horn
is made up of a material called keratin.. Humans have keratin, too, in
our hair and fingernails!
5: Rhinos can't see very well, but their hearing is excellent! rhinos, black rhinos, and white rhinos have two horns.
6: White rhinos are the world's second largest land mammal, and can
weigh up to 2300 kg (5,071 lb)!
7: Despite their size, rhinos can move pretty quickly, and have been
recorded running at 64 kmph (40 mph)!
8: The name rhinoceros actually means "nose horn."
9: Female rhinos are called cows, whilst male rhinos are called bulls.
Babies are called calves!
10: Javan rhinos and Indian rhinos have one horn: Sumatran
