More about L2 Navigational Bridge Lamps:
An L2 navigational bridge light, also known as a Type 2 Pivot-Type
Bridge Light, is a specific type of marine navi- gation light used to
mark bascule and vertical lift bridges. It typically features a 180° red
lens on the bottom and a 180° green lens on the top, indicating the
navigable channel and bridge position. These lights are designed to be
visible to approaching vessels, ensuring safe passage under or through
the bridge.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Purpose:
L2 lights are crucial for indicating the navigable channel and the position of the bridge to vessels navigating waterways.
Lens Configuration:
The standard configuration includes a red lens (indicating the bridge's
lower structure) and a green lens (indicating the upper structure).
However, they can be customized with different color combinations (red,
green, clear, or amber) depending on specific requirements and
regulations.   The ones in this listing are the RED LENS type.
Visibility:
The lights are designed to be visible from an approaching vessel within a
defined horizontal arc, typically 180°, and are mounted to be visible
from either side of the bridge span.
Placement:
They are strategically placed along the bridge structure, often just
below the outermost edge of the span, to clearly mark the navigable
channel.
Types of Bridges:
L2 lights are particularly relevant for bascule (drawbridge) and
vertical lift bridges, where the navigable channel can be altered by
bridge movement.
