BRAND-NEW SEALED IN CASE:  DVD - DENIAL - Rachel Weisz, Tom Wilkinson

Denial

Based on the acclaimed book Denial: Holocaust History on Trial, Denial recounts Deborah E. Lipstadt's legal battle for historical truth against David Irving (BAFTA nominee Timothy Spall), who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. In the English legal system, in cases of libel, the burden of proof is on the defendant, therefore it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team, led by Richard Rampton, to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust occurred. Denial is directed by Emmy Award winner Mick Jackson ('Temple Grandin') and adapted for the screen by BAFTA and Academy Award nominated writer David Hare. Producers are Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff.

Rampton has to take an unorthodox approach to maintain legitimacy, and prove the Holocaust did occur, and that Irving was a denier who deliberately manipulated facts to support his own views.

Deborah E. Lipstadt

Deborah E. Lipstadt is a bold, strong-willed writer and professor who is played by British-born, Academy Award-winning actress, Rachel Weisz. “She’s quite brilliant and very instructive,” says Weisz, “She is very colorful and I found her very outspoken and direct.” Based on true events, Lipstadt brings a trial upon herself after making comments in her book about a denier of the Holocaust named David Irving.

David Irving

David Irving, a claimed 'denier' of the Holocaust, is played by one of Britain’s most talented character actors, Timothy Spall. In the film, Spall becomes the firm, opinionated David Irving who will go to any length to show the Holocaust did not take place, following accusations made in Lipstadt’s book. Irving defends his claims by bring a lawsuit against Lipstadt in hopes of restoring his reputation.

Anthony Julius

Another key element to Deborah Lipstadt’s legal team is Solicitor Anthony Julius, played by Olivier award-winning actor Andrew Scott. In Britain, a Solicitor is one who creates the legal strategy and prepares documents. Julius and his team put together an unexpected strategy, and must convince Lipstadt that sacrifices must be made in order to win the lawsuit.
